Welcome!

Your competitive edge is critical in these demanding times. I work with entrepreneurs and innovative small businesses so that they can properly identify intellectual property that should be registered. Strategic registration of intellectual property is key to a sustained competitive advantage for all innovators. I am delighted to be operating on the Gold Coast because I find the business community here both dynamic and tenacious.

One of the goals of this website is to help you to understand why registration of your intellectual property is so important. Beyond the benefit of protection against copying, many practitioners find it difficult to give a plausible answer to this question. That's unfortunate because the proper registration of intellectual property is an important task for all businesses looking for that elusive edge over their competitors. Furthermore, registration of intellectual property without a strategy can be an expensive and fruitless exercise.

Registration of IP without a strategy can be an expensive and fruitless exercise

There is no doubt that registered IP can be extremely valuable. But that doesn't mean that you should be paying a fortune, often for institutionalised and impersonal service. At the end of the day, one person will be working on your case. In larger firms that will often be a junior trying to meet a billing target. I have been in the profession since 1990 and would be delighted personally to attend to the registration of your intellectual property.

Philosophy

To put it bluntly, the more skilled your patent or trade mark attorney is, the more effective your protection will be. It is for that reason that I believe in working directly with my clients, rather than having a junior interface. Security is one of the primary motivators for the registration of intellectual property. I therefore believe that it's important to take interest in my client's business so that the registration process can be tailored to suit the needs of my client.

I believe in working directly with my clients

Keeping overheads low is also key to my business philosophy. It allows me to give the best possible value to my clients. I am proud to join the growing group of smaller operators who think this way.  Unfortunately, in larger firms, much of each day's billings is applied to office space rental and salaries. The Internet provides an up to date legal resource centre and expensive file management systems are only as good as the clerks who are tasked to input data. My charges for patents, trade marks and designs can be found by following the links in the sidebar.

Above all, though, practising solo (with the goal of growing only very slightly) allows me to work directly with all my clients. I really enjoy hearing about how my clients cope and overcome many of the business challenges we face on a daily basis. That interest allows me to make strategic registration decisions that are tailored to help my clients, rather than leaving them even more confused than before.

I believe that the future of Australia is heavily dependent on how we treat intellectual property. It is therefore exciting for me to be involved in a profession that specialises in the registration of intellectual property. Apart from that, I partake enthusiastically in online social networking, as can be seen from the links in the side bar, which is just another side-effect of our growing knowledge-based society. In addition, when I get the chance, I post on my blog (see sidebar), which deals with Australian patent practice. Unfortunately, I don't get to do that enough, but my dream is to build a useful resource for clients and practitioners alike.
